There is no absolute standard answer to choosing a single jersey machine or double jersey machine for blended fabric production. The core principle is to match the equipment based on the fabric category and performance requirements you need. Both machines are compatible with blended yarns, but they have different focused application scenarios.
Scenarios Where Single Jersey Machines Are Preferred
Lightweight casual blended fabrics
Such as cotton-polyester blended T-shirt jersey, cotton-viscose blended pique fabric, and thin terry sweatshirt fabric. Single jersey machines operate at high speed and high efficiency, giving full play to the advantages of blended fabrics in lightness, breathability and cost-effectiveness. These products are also the mainstream adapted categories for single jersey machines.
Terry/sweatshirt blended fabrics
A single jersey machine can be directly converted into a three-thread fleece machine by replacing knitting tools, to produce cotton + polyester fiber blended terry sweatshirt fabric. The fabric is stiff and structured, making it a common choice for casual apparel.
High-value-added lightweight blended fabrics
High-gauge single jersey machines (12G, 14G, etc.) are compatible with silk/cotton/nylon/wool blended yarns, producing lightweight, skin-friendly high-end T-shirts and slim-fit summer base layers. These fabrics combine the fine luster of blended raw materials with comfortable breathability.
Scenarios Where Double Jersey Knitting Machines Are Preferred
Thick, skin-friendly blended fabrics
Such as cotton-wool blended underwear fabric and wool-blend base layer fabric. The interlock structure fabric produced by double jersey machines has a stable structure, no distinct front and back sides, excellent elasticity and low edge curling tendency. It is non-irritating when worn next to the skin, and fully compatible with all kinds of blended raw materials including cotton, wool and acrylic.
High-end business blended fabrics
High-gauge double jersey circular knitting machines (40G, etc.) can produce combed cotton + Tencel/Modal blended knit shirt fabric. The fabric is fine, smooth and dimensionally stable, with a woven-like stiff appearance while retaining the elasticity of knitwear. It is the preferred equipment for high-end business Polo shirts and knit shirts.
Special-structure blended fabrics
For blended fabrics with special structures like air-layer fabric, waffle fabric and French rib, double jersey machines have obvious advantages in the coordinated operation of upper and lower needle disks. For example, the air-layer blended fabric with cotton + spandex on both sides and monofilament in the middle can only be stably produced by double jersey machines, delivering a smooth fabric surface without horizontal stripes or dark shadows.
