Textile Class│Yarn count

1.the representation method

  • Metric count (Nm) refers to the length in meters of a gram of yarn (or fiber) at a given moisture regain.

Nm=L (unit m)/G (unit g).

  • Inch count (Ne) It refers to how many 840 yards of cotton yarn weighing 1 pound (453.6 grams) (wool yarn is 560 yards per pound) (1 yard = 0.9144 meters) long.

Ne=L(unit y)/{G(unit p)X840)}.

The inch count is the measurement unit specified by the old national standard for the thickness of cotton yarn, which has been replaced by the special number. If 1 pound of yarn has 60 840 yards long, the yarn fineness is 60 inch, which can be recorded as 60S. The representation and calculation method of the inch count of the strands are the same as the metric count.

2.fixed-length system

Refers to the weight of a certain length of fiber or yarn.

The smaller the value, the finer the yarn. Its measurement units include special number (Ntex) and denier (Nden).

  • Ntex, or tex, refers to the weight in grams of a 1000m long fiber or yarn at a predetermined moisture regain, also known as the number.

Ntex=1000G (unit g)/L (unit m)

For a single yarn, the tex number can be written in the form of “18 tex”, which means that when the yarn is 1000 meters long, its weight is 18 grams. The number of strands is equal to the number of single yarns multiplied by the number of strands. For example, 18X2 means that two single yarns of 18 tex are plied, and the ply fineness is 36 tex. When the number of single yarns that make up the strands is different, the number of strands is the sum of the numbers of each single yarn.

For fibers, the number of tex is too large, and it is often expressed in decitex (Ndtex). The decitex (unit dtex) refers to the weight in grams of 10000m long fiber at a given moisture regain.

Ndtex=(10000G×Gk)/L=10×Ntex

  • Denier (Nden) is denier, which refers to the weight in grams of 9000m long fibers or yarns at a predetermined moisture regain.

Nden=9000G (unit g)/L (unit m)

Denier can be expressed as: 24 denier, 30 denier and so on. The denier of the strands is expressed in the same way as the special number. Denier is generally used to express the fineness of natural fiber silk or chemical fiber filament.

3.representing method

The fabric count is a way of expressing yarn, usually expressed as the inch count (S) in “custom weight system” (this calculation method is divided into metric count and inch count), that is: in the official Under the condition of moisture regain (8.5%), the number of skeins with a length of 840 yards per skein in the spun yarn weighing one pound is the number of counts.

Usually, when doing fabric business, several professional words are often involved: count, density. So what effect does the fabric count and density have on the quality of the fabric?

Some people may still be in the puzzle.The next article will go into detail.
