Pakistan’s textile exports fell by 8.17%, and textile machinery imports fell by 50%

From July 2022 to January 2023, the value of Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports decreased by 8.17%. According to data released by the country’s Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan’s textile and apparel export revenue was $10.039 billion during the period, compared to $10.933 billion in July-January 2022.
By category, the export value of knitwear fell 2.93% year-on-year to US$2.8033 billion, while the export value of non-knitted garments fell 1.71% to US$2.1257 billion.

In textiles, cotton yarn exports fell 34.66% to $449.42 million in July-January 2023, while cotton fabric exports fell 9.34% to $1,225.35 million. Bedding exports fell 14.81 percent to $1,639.10 million during the period, the data showed.
In terms of imports, imports of synthetic fibers decreased by 32.40% year-on-year to US$301.47 million, while imports of synthetic and rayon yarns decreased by 25.44% to US$373.94 million during the same period.
At the same time, from July to January 2023, Pakistan’s textile machinery imports fell sharply by 49.01% year-on-year to US$257.14 million, indicating that new investment has declined.
In the 2021-22 fiscal year ended June 30, Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports rose 25.53 percent to $19.329 billion from $15.399 billion in the previous fiscal. In the fiscal year 2019-20, exports were worth $12.526 billion.
